The school environment is defined, even by recent laws, as a privileged space for fighting against gender discrimination and violence. In addition, the importance of teacher training in this regard is being acknowledged. The proposal for an educational system that reflects on gender and cultural stereotypes is not to relegate gender education to one disciplinary area, but rather to a system that includes different disciplines and is part of the “school’s way of acting” in the present day. The course aims to train teachers and educators to: develop educational and didactic projects; use methodologies and tools in teaching with workshops to educate about sex, love, equality and relationships between genders, considering rights and violence prevention; recognize and analyze gender issues in educational, social and cultural contexts; and recognize and deconstruct the supposed neutrality of knowledge.

Didactics and activities

In-person activities for a total of 60 hours of lessons, featuring an active teaching with university professors and well-known scholars with expertise in these issues. The lessons, which run from November 2023 to May 2024 during weekends, will be held in Bologna at the Department of Educational Sciences (Via Filippo Re 6).

The course will conclude with a final paper, in which participants will create a hypothetical educational project from a gender perspective.

If students attend 70 percent of the course, they will receive 10 university credits.
