Krump! Initiation et transversalité

A workshop by Nach

Age group: 14+

This workshop by Nach – a Senegalese-born choreographer and dancer now living in France – brings the energy, excitement and rhythm of krumping, an urban dance that originated in the early 2000s in the outskirts of Watts, Los Angeles, as a form of protest by the African-American community. The workshop turns street violence and youth anger into physical movement as a tool to break free from all of it and transform it into a powerful expression of a community seeking its place in the world. Far from predefined categories, Nach’s work claims a multiple identity that consists of mixing different choreographic languages from different parts of the world. Its identity is not tied to a particular place, but belongs to suburbs all over the world.

Nach entered the world of dance in 2008 through krumping. She collaborates at the same time with choreographer Heddy Maalem and director Marcel Bozonnet, on the music side with Koki Nakano and Ruth Rosenthal, in the film world with the Kourtrajmé collective. In 2017 she created her first solo, Cellule, which was followed in 2019 by Beloved Shadows, produced after a trip to Japan where she discovered the Nô theater, Bunraku, and Butô dance
