AGE

a show by CollettivO CineticO

First presented in 2012, <age> left an indelible mark on the theatre scene, on the history of CollettivO CineticO, and on the young people who took part in it.
The work returns to the stage today with a new group of teenagers, in a performance structured like an atlas: chapter by chapter, human “specimens” are called to expose themselves in a stage-ring where the director’s gong dictates the length of each action.

The young performers of <age> respond live to a series of questions about their own characteristics, opinions, tastes, and experiences—without knowing the criteria by which they will be chosen to appear. It becomes a space and time for self-representation, an encounter with adolescence as it defines itself, never fully ending.

Founded in 2007 by choreographer Francesca Pennini, CollettivO CineticO brings together over 50 artists from different disciplines. The collective’s research investigates the nature of the performative event through formats that are both playful and rigorous, moving across the boundaries of dance, theatre, and visual arts. A defining feature of their work is the creation of compositional methods and movement systems that engage with highly diverse bodies and devices, questioning the relationship between performer, spectator, and vision—shifting from the stage to urban spaces, from camouflaged interventions in daily life to virtual platforms. The collective has created 64 works and received numerous awards, including: the 2014 Rete Critica Award for Best Artist; the 2015 Danza & Danza Award to Francesca Pennini for Best Choreographer and Performer; the 2016 Hystrio Iceberg Award; the MESS Award at the 2016 BE Festival in Birmingham; the Premio Nazionale dei Critici di Teatro for Teatro Danza (2016); the 2017 UBU Award for Best Dance Performance; and the Golden Laurel Wreath Grand Prix for Best Performance at the 58th MESS Festival in Sarajevo for Sylphidarium Maria Taglioni on the Ground, which was also nominated for an UBU Award for Best Sound Project.
