Alfonsina Corridora

A show by Teatro al Quadrato and Tupamaros

Ages 11 and up

A story of redemption and passion: the story of Alfonsina Morini Strada.
The show tells the story of cyclist Alfonsina Morini Strada, the first woman to compete in the 1924 Giro d’Italia. At the time, cycling was a predominantly male sport, and women who participated—in addition to being very rare—were often subjected to discrimination, mockery, ridicule, and harsh social criticism. The show uses the artistic languages of theater, live music, and video projections to tell a story of redemption and passion, of emancipation and courage. In the Kingdom of Italy in the early 1900s, Alfonsina paved the way for women in the most epic and heroic sport of all time and, stage by stage, won her freedom and the affection of the people.
