A VISUAL DIARY

Creative workshop around the show led by Fabio Cherstich

The workshop, designed for art school students, was inspired by A Visual Diary, a show by Fabio Cherstich dedicated to three queer artists from New York in the 1980s and 1990s—Patrick Angus, Larry Stanton, and Darrell Ellis—whose lives and works were marked and partly erased by the AIDS epidemic.

Through viewing the show, meetings at school and at the theater, the class will explore the themes of repressed memory, queer identity, and the link between art and society. The course will intertwine the historical context of New York with the contemporary queer scene in Bologna, offering opportunities for dialogue, collective creation, and a final presentation of the work.

The workshop will be an opportunity to reflect on how art can give voice to those who have been forgotten, generate new narratives, and become a tool for sharing, resistance, and collective imagination.
